Silverstar’s New-Look Interior

Silverstar’s multi-million Rand development is progressing as planned and visitors are already seeing some interior changes taking effect.

The entire gaming floor and internal complex are being aesthetically refreshed to complement and bring together the theme of the development. The internal refurbishment is currently underway and will carry on until early September.

Taking its design cue directly from the scenic foothills of Roodekrans Ridge that surround Silverstar, the development is all about celebrating the great outdoors.

“The overall theme driving our development is bringing Silverstar into the open air and merging the inside and outside entertainment areas,” says Shane Collinson, Director of Operations and Complex General Manager at Silverstar.
The existing casino lobbies and walkways will be refurbished to reflect the same design concept as the new areas that have been added to Silverstar as part of the development.

The challenge of uniting the new areas with the existing structures is not an easy one, but the end result is going to be sensational.

“The design concept has been inspired by nature, creating a contemporary design with warm, earthy tones and natural materials to generate a soothing, yet sophisticated atmosphere which links the relationship between the interior and exterior spaces,” says Collinson.

Some of the design elements that are being spruced up include lowering the chandeliers to create a defined and more dramatic entrance and replacing the flower carpet in the entrance lobby with a geometric marble insert that is both practical in such a high traffic area and that also accentuates the existing marble colours.

A beautiful neutral palette is being used for the existing walls and ceilings. The stenciled flowers on the walls, for example, will be painted over to create a tranquil ambience, and the architraves will be accentuated with darker colour tones.

The vibrant new carpet designs that are set to line the casino walkways also have an interesting story to tell. They are a blend of wool (for natural soiling-resistance) and nylon (for durability) and were custom designed based on a stylised interpretation of a nebular galaxy.

The organic, free-flowing lines and circles in the custom-designed carpets complement the sweeping wave-like paint effects that are planned for the ceiling of the cinema lobby and are repeated in the unique multi-coloured Plexiglass sculpture of twisted ribbon shapes for the casino lobby.

The sculpture doubles as an aesthetically pleasing room divider between the casino floor and public walkways. Downlights directly above the sculpture will bring the ribbons to life with the interplay of light bouncing off the coloured strips.

Silverstar is also receiving a brand new cinema complex with six cinemas all boasting the latest 3D screens. The cinema zone includes a lobby area that will serve as a snack emporium that services both the cinemas and entertainment precinct. The lobby will sport a contemporary yet sophisticated look. Natural elements are incorporated into the design by using organic flowing effects on the walls and dramatic waves on the ceiling. Lighting will be used to create the mood.

In addition, new public toilet facilities have been designed to service the cinemas, Magic Company and outdoor square. The contemporary natural design elements will be carried through to the public toilets.

Regular visitors will recognise architectural elements from the previous Silverstar design, but new facades and spaces are going to change the overall feel of the entertainment complex to a light, transparent and continuous arena that brings nature in and subtly expands the floor area in order to cater for all of the exciting new additions to the facilities.
Interior changes that will be visible over the next few months include the ripping out of the existing carpets to be replaced by new ones, painting of the walls and changing of the chandeliers.

Silverstar is still open for business as usual while the development is being completed. For more information contact Silverstar on 011 662 7300 or visit www.silverstarcasino.co.za to view the various restaurants that are trading.
