Live At Barnyard Silverstar
When you have tried and experienced everything in life. When your pilgrimages are trodden, and your crossroads crossed. When you have chewed through even the hardest gems and rubies of the past and you have made peace with your past and what the world outside thinks of you. When you get your license for self-acceptance, only then do you experience the richness that every human being so longs for. This rebellious boy we got to know is now older and more mature. You can hear this in his lyrics, his passion in the silences between words, while his honest, raw acoustic melodies tug at your heartstrings.
Jan Blohm’s debut album, which appeared in 2004, Melkstraat Confession, turned the rock world on its head after he stole the spotlight with ‘Album of the Year’ in 2005 at the GMT Awards. Breyten’s letter was then named song of the year and Jan as “Best Newcomer”. Afterwards, Jan ventured into his career barefoot with highs and lows, but today stands undefeated with the flag in hand on the top of the mountain as the king of Afrikaans Rock. Many other awards followed such as Huisgenoot Tempo’s “Best Rock group of the year” in 2005. In 2008 he spread his wings and plucked the heartstrings in London and even Beijing, China! At the 14th annual SAMA awards night, our Rock King is awarded “Best Afrikaans DVD of the year.” 2009 Jan introduces his 7 Years and gratefully walks away with the VAMT award for “Best Rock Album of the year” as well as two Huisgenoot Tempo Awards for “Most Popular Rock Album” and “Alternative Music Video of the year” together with MK! A ‘rocker’ with more awards than guitars a few years back!
A musical circle that began with frustrations, opposition, without understanding and hope, has today been completed with self-acceptance and pride. Over the years, Jan Blohm has not only grown as a musician and lyricist, but has fully developed his talent as a painter and unleashed his imagination on canvas. He recently had his first solo exhibition at the Breytenbach Gallery in Wellington – another circle that has been completed.
Come and travel with Jan Blohm for one night at Silverstar Barnyard Theatre through 20 years of hits and new material in a show that will entertain and amaze you from start to finish.
