Jak de Priester – On Another Planet

After twenty successful years in the South African entertainment industry, Jak de Priester certainly needs no introduction. This award-winning Pretoriarian, with his soulful voice, meaningful lyrics, rhythmic music and entertaining stage persona, has over the years made a deep nest in the hearts of his fans. Today, this Sally Williams Nougat singer is an established name, with ten studio albums, a children’s album and DVD, a book, a collection of poems and several stage productions under his belt. He also added television presenter to his impressive CV in 2012.

Jak, who grew up in Parys in the Free State, has been involved in music, the stage and writing songs since childhood. His career kicked off in 2003, after he won the ATKV-Crescendo competition. This gave him the opportunity to record his first album, titled Sally Williams Nougat, which produced a big hit with the same name. He also received a Noise Award for Best Newcomer that year. Since his debut album, numerous number one radio hits, awards, nominations and successful albums have followed, including (Sally Williams Nougat – 2003) Strate Van My Hart (2004), Brooklyn ‘Poet’ (2005), Stellenbosch Lovesong (2007), Groen Mamba (2008), 16 Letters to My Baby (2010), Die Liefde Los a Spoor (2011), N1 van my Hart (2012), Ek Reis Na Gister (2015), 15 Years (2017), Album10 (2020) and a children’s album and DVD, Mine, Mine, Mine (2014). He was also seen in several stage productions such as Underground, Strate Is Nie Stom Nie, Nataniël and Friends, Net ’n Bietjie Liefde Vir Die Langpad, and many more.

In 2021, Jak de Priester also develops his own television program on KykNET entitled Koppieteefontein, of which he is the presenter as well as wrote the theme song. The second season of the popular series will be broadcast in October 2022.

The industry has taught him a lot about patience, failure, stress, success and faith, but he has always believed that music can heal anything. You can catch him up close and live for 1 night only at Silverstar Barnyard.
